The Paddle Trail offers a new portal to this stunning lake region with at its heart, the rental of Kayaks, Canoes and Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs) from and between our three locations of Bönigen, Iseltwald and Brienz. The fantastic paddling, combined out fantastic outdoor opportunities, activities and attractions allow you to explore under your own steam and showcase the very best of lake and mountain scenery and active lifestyle.

The Lake of Brienz is a perfect destination to be based for your weekends, holidays or events with a large number of activities and attractions to keep you busy.  Our homepage will provide you with the inspiration for an action packed visit based around the four partner villages and the possibilities to combine kayaking, canoeing and SUP with paddlesteamer cruises, dramatic waterfalls, stunning mountain vistas and lakeside hikes, cycles, exhillerating biking, adrenaline filled white water rafting, 360 degree spin Jetboat rides, historic steam railways, motor boat rentals, relaxing lidos and a fascinating open air museum to add into the mix.  Once tired from the day we can recommend cosy places to stay around the lake a fine dining experiences all categoried under DO, EAT & SLEEP.

Managed and led by Hightide Kayak School and SUP Fit&Fun in Bönigen, the Paddle Trail is a partnership of 23 activities, attractions, hotels and restaurants around the lake. Together we aim to promote the region as an unparalleled outdoor destination combining nature, sport with local attractions, fine dining and comfortable accommodation.

LAKE AREAS

BÖNIGEN

The quiet and historic village of Bönigen is the closest starting point to Interlaken for the Paddle Trail.  With traditional wooden chalets dating back to the 16th century and the stunning panorama of the lake, the village provides a picturesque and ideal base for activities on the Lake of Brienz that well connected by public transport, plenty of parking and easy access to the water.

ISELTWALD

Iseltwald is a pretty village with just 400 inhabitants and is beautifully located on the peninsular half way along the lake between Bönigen and Brienz. This ideal stop over point makes it possible to combine your paddle with a hike along the lake or up into the mountains, rent a motorboat or take the paddlesteamer back to your start point.

BRIENZ

The laid back lakeside town of Brienz on the northrern shore of Lake Brienz is a must-visit on the lake area. Brienz is a home to the Ballenberg Open Air Museum where also outdoor theatre plays are performed during the summer. The Brienz Rothorn Bahn which is the fourth highest railway and the only line offering a full steam service in Switzerland starts from Brienz.

RINGGENBERG

Ringgenberg is situated on the north shore of the lake just a short distance form Interlaken and Bönigen. It offers good access to the water, a hotel and restaurant in a fantastic lakeside location and also great transport links with trains and the ferries making it possible with your own equipment to do a one way trip along the lake to Brienz or overnight before continuing along the other lakeshore.
